Do you have a passion for theatre, performance and creativity?
As a Drama teacher, you will inspire young people to build confidence, develop communication skills and express themselves through performance. Our Drama teacher training programme will equip you with the knowledge, confidence and classroom experience needed to engage learners, nurture their creativity and help them reach their full potential both on and off the stage.

Our Subject Lead
After completing a BA (Hons) in Theatre Studies, with an elective in English Literature, at Middlesex University, Lynn returned to Manchester to pursue teaching and explore how the Arts could remove barriers to learning.
​
Promoted to Head of Department in 2001, she co-led a successful bid to become the country’s first Science and Arts Specialist School. In 2009, she became Assistant Headteacher, a Fellow of the Royal Society of Arts, and a founding Lead Practitioner within the Northwest Comino Creative Consortium and Bury LCEP.

As Subject Lead for Drama within Prestolee SCITT, Lynn is passionate about inspiring meaningful, relevant learning.
How will I study?

Our SCITT Training Sessions
Trainees begin teaching early in the programme, developing their practice across two school placements.
In the Beginning Phase, trainees focus on routines, positive relationships and introducing core performance skills.
In the Developing Phase, trainees plan and deliver lessons in devising, scripted performance and theatre styles.
In the Extending Phase, trainees refine their practice, teaching a full timetable and preparing students for the demands of Key Stage 4 Drama.
Teaching develops from small activities to full lessons and performance sequences, including:

Teaching devising and scripted work

Developing performance and evaluation skills

Exploring practitioners and theatre styles

Supporting students in developing their own confidence and vocal skills
Trainees also take part in ITaP, applying strategies such as modelling performance, scaffolding creative work and using effective questioning.

Entry Requirements
Honours degree at a class 3 or above ideally in Drama or a related subject
Grade C/4 in GCSE English (or equivalent)
Grade C/4 in GCSE Maths (or equivalent)
Good subject knowledge

No school experience is required to join this course!
Finance & Funding
Our course fees for 2027-28 are set at £8790 per annum.
Tuition fee loans are available for most British students. Applicants can also apply for a maintenance loan for financal support during their study. Self-funding options also available. The Department for Education reviews bursary funding annually.
For the most recently published funding guidance, Secondary Drama does not currently attract a training bursary or scholarship. However, this information will be available in October 2026 by the DfE.
